Getting Started

  1. On the account where you wish to add the Windows device go to the Devices tab, click on Livigent IC and then click on the Add new device button on the top right and select default.
  2. Once you click on the default you will have to fill out the IC Profile name and IC Profile password for that device. The username has to be alphanumeric and is case sensitive. Please make sure that there is no space or (*) in the username.
  3. Select the correct server location and then hit save user. Any other fields on this page can be filled later if needed.
  4. Once you hit save user you will be redirected on the page of the user that was just created. Hit Save & Config in order to push these settings from the CRM to the server.

Initial Setup

  1. Before installing the Livigent ic filter on your Windows device please make sure that there are no other filters already installed.
  2. Download the Installer from the link provided making sure that you have the same x64 or x86 version of the filter as the Windows on that device and run the file.
  3. On the installer hit next and make sure all your browsers are closed. If you still have any browser process open the filter will force close it when you press Close All.
  4. Hit next until the process is finished.
  5. Once the filter is installed you should see an icon in the tray and also a shortcut on the desktop with which you can open the filter interface.
  6. With the filter open on that computer go to the Profile Tab and write in the username and password. Please be aware that both the username and password are case sensitive.
  7. Once the profile information is set you can hit apply. A pop-up will appear that the profile has been changed. Hit ok and wait a few seconds for the filter to load the settings from the server.
  1. To allow or block a category of websites for a specific user, you have to be on that user account.
  2. The Categories are located on the Filtering tab. From here you can allow or block a category and also add image filtering and video filtering for a category.
  3. Please note that the categories are ranked from safest on top to the most unsafe at the bottom. Even when allowed, these categories will allow websites while filtering them.
  4. Some categories are dependent on others, such as Shopping and Clothing Shopping. Meaning that if you allow Clothing Shopping but Shopping is blocked it will not work. Both categories have to be allowed in order for Clothing Shopping to work. Same as with Weather, Sports and News. And with It Blogs and Social Networking.
  5. Once you have changed the settings on that account press on Save & Config to load those settings on the server.
  1. To allow a website for a user go to the user’s account on the CRM and click on URL Lists.
  2. Here you will find a field where urls can be added (for multiple urls added at the same time make sure they are one above the other in the list). Below the field you can select the timeframe for the url: Permanent or with an expiration date (by default it’s permanent). Also a reason must be selected when adding a url.
  3. First we must decide what kind of url we want to allow. There are 2 options: allowing an exact link (only 1 page of a website) and allowing the entire domain of a website.
  4. We will use nyc.gov as an example. To allow the entire domain of nyc.gov you have to insert the url nyc.gov (without www. or http) and click on full domain on the right side. This will open all links that come from the domain nyc.gov (including for example admin.nyc.gov and nyc.gov/something )
  5. To allow a specific url such as https://www1.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/categories.page we have to use (*) at the beginning and end of the link. The link would be used as follows: *.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/categories.page*
  6. The * can be replaced with anything (in this case it will be replaced with www1 as seen at the beginning of the original link and the one at the end can be replaced with anything from that link, usually a sublink of that specific page.
  7. Once we know what type of url we want to allow we need to decide in what list we want to add the website. In most cases there are 5 lists that are used for adding links. Minimum filter, Minimum Filter + dependencies, No Filter and No Filter + dependencies and Blacklist.
  8. Minimum Filter is a list where if a link is added, that link will be opened if the category in which it can be found is blocked. For instance adding nyc.gov as a full domain in Minimum Filter will grant that user access to the link even when the Government category is set to be blocked.
  9. Minimum Filter + dependencies will grant access to the website and will also allow that website to load content from other links from that website. An example would be zara.com which has all the images hosted on static.zara.net. Without dependencies included when adding zara.com the images may not load.
  10. To add a link with dependencies as well you have to click on Include Dependencies on the URL Lists tab.
  11. No Filter is the list with a very high priority. Meaning that it will grant access even to inappropriate content on that url. Some types of websites can only be added in No Filter in order for them to work. These are websites that are analyzed by the filter as Search Engines, Adult content, Piracy and Unsupported Languages.
  12. No Filter + Dependencies will open the link fully unfiltered and all related links from that website. Usually this is not used since it opens up more than normally needed. For instance opening zara.com in this list will also grant you access to the links to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Youtube that are found on that website. If a website has to be opened up completely unfiltered it is recommended to add that domain in the No Filter list and also in the Minimum Filter + dependencies. This way the Domain will be fully open and the dependencies will be filtered.
  13. Blacklist is the list where we add a website when we want to block it. Please note that if that website is in Blacklist and in No Filter as well, it will still remain open as No Filter has a higher priority than the Blacklist.
